Peace Resolution Hearing Update
Thank you to all who attended the hearing on SCR 4022, North Dakota's Peace Resolution. The hearing room was overcrowded and literally overflowing with peacemakers! In support of the resolution, many, many peacemakers testified — including Chuck Suchy, Paul Dyer (veteran of Iraq duty), Rev. Chris Alexander of Faith Lutheran Church, Rev. Jim Moos of the United Church of Christ, Sr. Maris Stella Korb of the Sisters of the Presentation, and Don Morrison of NDPeople.Org. On behalf of the ND Peace Coalition, Karen Van Fossan presented the Committee with a stack of peace petitions, with over 600 signatures collected so far — signatures collected by wonderful volunteers across North Dakota. As previously announced, the hearing on SCR 4022 is this morning at 10:30 in the Red River Room. In addition, “In Their Shoes” — an exhibit in which empty combat boots and civilian shoes honor all who have fallen in Iraq — will be on display until 5pm in the atrium (east entrance). Update: Statewide “Surge for Peace” Rally
Thank you to all who made the statewide rally on January 27th such a peace-filled, spirited, positive avenue to change! (Photos.)
With 200 people in attendance, and over 600 signatures on petitions — with music, dance, food, conversation, and intergenerational community — we truly did make a difference.
People came from Williston, Minot, Wells Co., Ft. Yates, Bismarck-Mandan, Jamestown, Fargo, Grand Forks, and more.
I believe the representatives from the 3 US Congressional Delegations were appreciative of our positive, focused approach. I loved seeing them with their great big PEACE signs (which we offered as gifts).
Please know that your generosity has touched me personally.
Peace,
Karen Van Fossan
